Hi! Today I’m sharing all my summer beauty must haves! We’re going to cover everything from skincare, makeup, body and hair favorites in today’s post. Keep an eye out for my post on the best face and body SPFs for more sunscreen suggestions! I want to point out not all of these products are new releases, so you may already have some in your cupboard (or skincare fridge!). These are just my favourite products for the summer season.

Summer Beauty Must Have: SKINCARE
The first summer beauty must have category is SKINCARE! Skincare is probably my favourite category. I shop the most for skincare and keep up with all the latest products. Skincare is key all times of the year, especially in summer when most people want to go lighter on the makeup.
The Tatcha deep cleanse is definitely one of my favorite cleansers in general, but especially for summer. It has a gorgeous jelly texture, and a little bit of exfoliation in it. This cleanser also smells so fresh and amazing (like all of tatcha’s products!). The exfoliation makes it a great cleanser for summer when we’re sweating more and using more sunscreen. It really gets the skin feeling super clean and refreshed.
The Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta daily peel is another product that is a staple for me all year round. I feel like I rely on these even more in the summer to keep my skin clear and smooth instead of textured. Especially these days, where we all (should be) wearing a face mask and I am required one at work, my skin is extra congested and bumpy. That paired with the warmer weather and all the SPF and I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT THESE! I actually use the extra strength ones, but my face can take quite the beating when it comes to acids. The regular strength is best for most people. Also you don’t *have* to use them daily, so you can make the big box last even longer by using these about 3x per week.
Face mists are my best friend all summer. They’re great to cool you down, give your skin a healthy glow, and refresh and rehydrate through the day. The caudalie beauty elixir is one of my absolute favourites. It’s toning, and it has a gorgeous refreshing minty smell that really wakes up the senses. It feels cooling on, and really helps to refresh when you’re feeling sweaty and sticky throughout the hotter days.
Another Caudalie mist, but they’re honestly both SO good. This one is a little more simple (and cheaper). It’s basically just grape water and grape juice. Grapes hold a lot of hydration and anti aging properties, so this spray is super hydrating. It’s great to spray on top of makeup to rehydrate and refresh, as well as in between or at the end of your skincare. I had the worst sunburn I’ve had in years, and misting this on after putting my aloe on was a game changer. They also sell a mini that’s great to take on the go!
The next summer beauty must have on my list is Farmacy coconut gel hydrating sheet masks. These also come in a brightening form, which I love as well, but for summer hydration always takes the cake for me. I love a gel sheet mask more than a regular cloth because it forms to the face more and stays exactly where you place it instead of sliding around. I keep these in the fridge for maximum refreshment.
My next must have is the Skyn Iceland hydro cool firming eye gels. These eye patches also have a gel texture, with a cloth outside. They stick right to the skin so no fussing and sliding around. These feel amazing and super cooling. I keep them in the fridge with my sheet mask for extra depuffing and refreshing.
The Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi anti-pollution sunshine serum can kind of fit into skincare or makeup. These drops are super versatile. You can mix some in with moisturizer for a light healthy bit of color and glow, or mix it in your foundation to make it a bit more tan. You can also use these in select areas for a very natural cream bronzer look. I decided to include this with the skincare because the D-Bronzi drops are packed with anti-oxidants which help detox the skin from environmental stressors, and peptides which help firm.
My summer beauty must have moisturizer is the Skyn Iceland Antidote Cooling lotion. This moisturizer isn’t super heavy, so if your skin is really dry (which mine can be) you may want to pair it with an oil or a hydrating serum. If you have oilier skin, this will definitely help control the oil. When this lotion says cooling, it’s NO JOKE. It feels super cool and refreshing, and the cooling sensation lasts longer than any other “cooling” product I’ve ever used. It’s a perfect summer moisturizer.
A jade or quartz roller is a super popular beauty tool all year round. I find these especially lovely in the summer months because the stone feels so cooling and depuffing. A jade roller helps to really massage and push your serums and oils deeper into the skin. A roller also helps to firm and lift the skin, relax wrinkles, and promotes lymphatic drainage. So yeah, you need one of these! This is another awesome one to keep in the fridge.
This summer beauty must have isn’t exactly “skincare”, but it is amazing! The Sephora Collection gradual self tanning face gel works like a dream. You apply one layer, leave it for a few hours, then if you want you can add more a second time if the color is still too light. It’s super natural looking. This product is perfect because it never looks streaky! I love this because my body get’s fairly tan in the summer, but I ALWAYS have sunscreen on my face and a hat on, so my face never gets any color. This helps even me out and give my face a bit of color to match my natural tan on the rest of my body. The only thing I don’t love is that it doesn’t last long, but that’s probably because I do so much exfoliating!
Must Have: MAKE-UP
In the summer I love to keep my make-up light and glowwy. I prefer to keep it simple, and use fewer products so my skin doesn’t feel heavy or weighed down with products.
The It Cosmetics illuminating CC cream is my favourite complexion product in general. It has a beautiful radiant finish, and great coverage. I love it because you can really build the coverage up to a full coverage foundation, or swipe it on lightly for a less full coverage. This is perfect for summer where I still need some coverage, but want to keep it light. Also, it has an SPF of 50, which is necessary especially in the summer months. I always opt for the illuminating finish because I like it glowwy, but it also comes in a natural finish, and a matte.
The next summer beauty must have is a clear brow gel. I LOVE a simple fluffy brushed up brow. Especially for the summer, because it’s easy and looks youthful. My favourite clear brow gel I’ve ever used is the Benefit 24 hour brow setter. The brush is so user friendly and you can use the flat side to layer on more product where you have stubborn hairs. Pro tip: You can use the comb side on flyaways and baby hairs by the face! It’s amazing. And never feels crusty or thick.
This Dior Backstage Glow face palette is my go to for summer. Each shade has a lovely lit from within shimmer. It’s not overly glittery, and I find I can use this one palette for everything – bronzer, blush, highlight and eyes. Like I said, I love a glow.
The Laneige Lip Glowy Balm is my next summer beauty must have. This lip balm is super hydrating and all the flavours smell amazing. It’s also super glossy, so it’s really the best of both words – balm and gloss. This is a go to for the summer because I prefer something light and easy to reapply.
This next summer beauty must have is another skincare or makeup product. I tent to like to use it most over make-up kind of like a setting spray. Sometime’s my makeup feels cakey, or dried down to my face and it doesn’t look as glowwy. That’s where this mist comes in. It has hyaluronic acid, a super hot ingredient right now. Hyaluronic acid helps to hydrate the skin, and plum the face by bringing water from the air to the surface of your skin. Hyaluronic holds 1000x its weight in hydration. This mist also contains tons of skin boosting oils that really nourish the skin and boost the glow. This mist is great to use on no makeup days because of it’s amazing skin benefits. It’s also amazing to use on top of makeup to really give you that dewy wet look. You need this.
Must Have: BODY
I’ll admit, sometimes I slack with taking care of the skin on my body. Like, I could moisturize but ugh… It’s so much work. I know it’s bad; I’m learning and trying okay? Anyways, summer is when I tend to put a lot more effort into body care, because it’s that time of year where we’re all showing a little more skin. Here are my top summer beauty must haves for body.
This skinfix scrub is a GAME CHANGER. It has a lovely creamy texture with a gritty scrub, so you get the physical exfoliation BUT it also has AHAs. That’s what makes this scrub so magical for me. It’s chemical exfoliation too! So AHA’s (Alpha-hydroxy acids) basically go in and eat away at dead skin on the surface. This helps with texture, bumpy skin, even KP (“chicken skin”). Lately I’ve been using this to help my legs where I find my pores and hair follicles show. It’s great to use in the shower to prep for shaving, and you can also use this scrub dry before getting in the shower for extra grittiness.
My body cream summer beauty must have is The Sol De Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream. To be honest, as much as I like this scent, I prefer the bum bum cream (the one in the yellow). That being said, this one is the most unique texture, which is why for summer it’s more what I’m looking for. It’s called an “oil in water” cream, so it’s light weight and sinks in super quick. It feels like a plush gel texture. I hate feeling hot and sticky, so the fact it sinks in easily is important to me for summer. And the scent, despite the fact I like the yellow a little more, is still lovely and super summery.
Another body summer beauty must have is an exfoliating mitt. Exfoliation is key especially in the summer to keep the skintone even, get rid of any dry skin, and it also can help with firming the skin as well. I like an exfoliation mitt because you can use it with your regular shower gel to make it exfoliating. I really don’t like the feeling of rubbing a scrub with my hands. Honesty, I have no idea why this is. Maybe it’s because I go HAM, and it feels too tingly and weird? I’m not sure. The mitt saves me from that, and adds an extra level of exfoliation for extra flaky or stubborn parts.
If you’re noticing a theme, you’re right. It’s exfoliation. I always get ingrown hairs, my hair follicles and pores show when I shave, and sometimes I get flaky skin on my legs. Because of this, exfoliation really is KEY, because it helps with all of those. Dry brushing is exactly that – a brush you use dry. There are so many benefits to it! The main ones are exfoliation, firming the skin, reducing cellulite, and lymphatic drainage. I dry brush before I get in the shower so if the brush lifts any dead skin I’ll rinse it away in the shower. Pro Tip: With dry brushing always go in circular, upward motions towards the heart.
Summer Beauty Must Have: FRAGRANCE
I have a few different summer perfume faves that I alternate between. Perfume is so up to individual taste, so I’ll just show you the top two I’ve really been loving this year.
I originally fell in love with this because I had been lusting over the ($600/ bottle) Tom Ford Neroli Portifino but it was way out of my budget. I gave this Clean scent a spray and it smelled almost identical! I also love it because it is a clean brand, and they’re more ethically manufactured. They also take into consideration carbon footprint, packaging and non-toxic ingredients. Over all really great. The scent is light and fresh smelling, but also a bit sultry and unique. Pro Tip: You can actually spray the fragrance on the wood block lid and it makes a room scent diffuser. SUPER COOL!
This next perfume summer beauty must have is from one of my all time favourite fragrance brands. The Replica collection is exactly the vibe I LOVE. They associate all the scents they made with a place and time, and a vibe. So Under the Lemon Trees for example is from Palermo, 1987. Their fragrances are also pretty much all marketed as female and male, or some say “gender anonymous” which I adore. Like hello, it’s 2020. Why are we gendering scents. I think they’re super forward thinking while also being so classic. I could rave about them forever, but on to this scent specifically. Under the lemon trees smells exactly like you’d expect; like lemons. But better. It has a sweet and slightly musky scent, but the freshness of the lemon makes it perfect for summer.
Must Have: HAIR
The final category of this summer beauty must haves is hair. I am very much a product junkie, so hair products are just as important to me as the rest.
One of my all time summer beauty must haves is the Briogeo scalp revival charcoal and coconut exfoliating shampoo. It has a delicious minty scent that really helps the scalp feel cool and a little tingly. This exfoliating shampoo is also amazing at removing buildup from the scalp and hair, and really balancing the scalp. I love it all year round, but the cooling sensation is especially great in the summer.
My shampoo routine honestly wouldn’t be complete without the Briogeo scalp revival massager. You can use this in or out of the shower. I love using it with the exfoliating shampoo to really get in there and lather the shampoo. It feels amazing, and it gets a really nice deep clean going. With this, the key is to go in with smaller circular motions instead of large to avoid tangling the hair.
This is the only dry shampoo I have ever truly loved. The Moroccan Oil Dry shampoo is another top summer beauty must have. It comes in two colors, light tones and dark tones. The dark tones I would say is more of a neutral, and the light tones is a slightly purple color for toning light hair and not going yellow. This dry shampoo smells amazing, and feels amazing in. Of all the dry shampoo I’ve tried, the Moroccan Oil is the only one that doesn’t feel heavy and sticky. Usually dry shampoo means I HAVE to wash my hair that night, but with the moroccan oil one I can definitely stretch that out a few days and add more as needed.
My last summer beauty must have is the Briogeo Farwell Frizz leave in conditioner. A leave in conditioner is something I can’t live without in the summer. Between the beach, the pool, and the sun, my hair gets seriously dry. Briogeo is one of my favourite hair brands – as you cal see. They’re a clean brand at sephora, and they also call themselves 6-free haircare which means no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, DEA and synthetic color. Because of this, curly girls can use it, and it’s actually hydrating the hair not just coating it. It smells amazing and makes the hair so so soft. I use this wet or dry.
And that concludes my summer beauty must haves! Hope you ejoyed and learned about a new product or two! Comment and let me know what your must have summer products are! I am ALWAYS looking for new beauty products to try. Miss my last post? Read it here.
